You worked hard on your book and it is finally out in the world – but your sales figures just aren’t where you thought they would be. You know you need to improve your marketing strategy, but you feel lost and overwhelmed.

You have tried to educate yourself about book marketing, but there is just so much information out there. Where do you start? What tactics can help you, and what should you ignore? How do you implement the solutions everyone talks about?

You feel like you’ve tried it all, but nothing seems to be working…

Imagine knowing exactly what to focus on

Imagine getting unstuck. Imagine being able to isolate the problems you are facing and applying effective solutions. Imagine having the insight to identify missed opportunities when it comes to improving your book marketing. Imagine building an author business that can provide you with a predictable income.

Stop imagining and take the first step: Troubleshoot your book marketing!

Why is this book different?

The core philosophy behind this book is that you need to take a focused, problem-led approach in order to conquer that feeling of being overwhelmed or even paralyzed in the face of too much information. A lot of advice about book marketing out there falls flat in two ways:

  1. It takes for granted that you have prior knowledge of marketing or selling; and
  2. It focuses too much on what you need to be doing without first answering when to do these things and why they are important.

This book aims to remedy these two issues so you can supercharge your marketing efforts and sell more books.

So, what is in the book?

The book is split into two parts.

Part one aims to fill any gaps in your knowledge foundation so you can take charge of your book marketing and understand the context for the problems and solutions outlined in Part Two of the book.

Part two outlines the most common problems to do with book marketing and provides practical solutions for overcoming them, as well as visualizing what an ideal outcome would look like and tactics for achieving this ideal outcome.

Part One: Laying the groundwork

About the author

Hello! My name is Peter Barlow and I am the co-founder of the website you are currently visiting. I have been involved in publishing for close to 10 years, with the majority of those years focused exclusively on helping self-publishing authors to create books that can compete with traditionally-published ones.

It is our mission at Author Secret to help self-publishing fiction authors build a business around their books that can provide a steady and predictable stream of income – this book is a key component in that mission.

Why should I listen to you?

A fair question. Most resources for authors are written by other (more successful) authors. These authors have already “made it” and often gloss over the real issues that new and upcoming authors are facing in the market today. I am not an author, but rather a publishing professional, so I bring an unbiased perspective to what self-publishing authors really need to be focusing on in order to be successful.

All of the advice I give in this book has either been validated by the authors I have worked with over the years, or through my own observations and research into what has worked for others. I have done the legwork so you don’t have to.

Your questions answered

Who is this book for?

This book is for self-published fiction authors who want to improve their book marketing and turn their self-publishing efforts into a business that gives them a more predictable income. It will prove most helpful to authors who have already published at least one book.

Will the book be available on Amazon at all?

No, the book won’t be available on Amazon. Why? Because I want to be able to stay in contact with everyone who bought the book and push updates to them easily. Amazon doesn’t allow you to do that.

How often can I expect updates to be made to the book?

Book marketing is changing all the time, and so are the challenges that authors face. It is my mission to document these challenges and suggest solutions as quickly as possible. However, I can’t give you a concrete timeframe for when I will release updated versions, as these updates have be genuine and organic in response to market changes.

When will the extra resources be available?

I am focusing on the getting the book written now, so any extras will be released as they become available after the launch on 31 May 2018.
